It’s a sad but undeniable truth that today’s younger generation seems to lack the boundless imagination and creativity of previous generations. The art and expression that once defined the genre have been replaced by a cold, calculating focus on numbers and “content”. In the modern music industry, a rapper’s primary focus is on churning out regular content and racking up as many streams on music streaming platforms as possible, all in the pursuit of financial gain. Today, gone are the days when rap music was revered as a form of art and poetry. Through the art of rap, they were able to transform pain into powerful, resonant art. For the rappers themselves, creating these songs was also a way to heal and process any traumas they may have experienced. In its earliest days, it was a way for people to recount their struggles and hardships on the streets, pouring their hearts into raw, emotional rhymes that moved listeners to tears. Rap music has always been a powerful outlet for self-expression and storytelling. However, in my opinion, this is one of the biggest reasons why rap music nowadays has become so bad.
